Institute of Biostatistics and Analyses at the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Science of the Masaryk University, Brno, Czech Republic (IBA MU) is a research institute oriented to the solution of scientific projects and providing related services, especially in the field of biological and clinical data analysis, organization and management of clinical trials, software development and ICT applications. IBA MU activities are primarily focused on organizational and expert services for large scientific projects and clinical research projects.

  • Background information of screening programmes

    IBA MU is a provider of information and technological solution for three cancer prevention programmes - breast, colorectal, and cervical screening. The solution includes anonymous data collection from all three programmes and their analytical processing, which allows for long-term monitoring of screening programmes quality and safety. Part of the background information are offical web portals of the programmes - Mamo.cz, Kolorektum.cz and Cervix.cz.

    IBA MU guarantees a study programme at the Faculty of Science entitled Computational Biology; the programme consists of 3-year B.Sc. and subsequent 2-year M.Sc. degree and allows students to join important research activities and projects in biology and medicine already during their study.

    IBA MU participates in the education network of medical faculties MEFANET - a project aimed to develop and to strengthen the cooperation among Czech and Slovak medical faculties, as regards the progress in education of medical and health care disciplines using modern ICT.

Regional Centre of the Stockholm Convention in Brno - Research Centre for Toxic Compounds in the Environment (RECETOX) and Institute of Biostatistics and Analyses, Masaryk University, Czech Republic, have successfully finalized the development of the complex software and visualisation tool for global levels of the Stockholm Convention contained persistent organic pollutants in the atmosphere and human tissues (human milk and blood). Portal was launched on 22 February 2013.

6th year of the MEFANET conference brought new ideas for the education of future health professionals

The 6th year of the MEFANET conference was held in Brno, Czech Republic, from Tuesday 27th to Wednesday 28th November 2012. This conference provides a regular opportunity for teachers and students from medical faculties from all over the Czech Republic and Slovakia to meet experts in health care informatics and providers of electronical support in the education. Apart from methodical and educational aspects of e-learning at medical faculties in general, this year's conference has again dealt with the impact of this phenomenon on a specific medical specialty: a thematically focused symposium addressed the fields of orthopaedics, rheumatology and physiotherapy.
