Institute of Biostatistics and Analyses at the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Science of the Masaryk University, Brno, Czech Republic (IBA MU) is a research institute oriented to the solution of scientific projects and providing related services, especially in the field of biological and clinical data analysis, organization and management of clinical trials, software development and ICT applications. IBA MU activities are primarily focused on organizational and expert services for large scientific projects and clinical research projects.

    IBA MU guarantees a study programme at the Faculty of Science entitled Computational Biology; the programme consists of 3-year B.Sc. and subsequent 2-year M.Sc. degree and allows students to join important research activities and projects in biology and medicine already during their study.

    IBA MU participates in the education network of medical faculties MEFANET - a project aimed to develop and to strengthen the cooperation among Czech and Slovak medical faculties, as regards the progress in education of medical and health care disciplines using modern ICT.

New registry of patients with achondroplasia

Achondroplasia is a rare genetic condition, which affects the normal growth of human skeleton. It is important for patients, their families and physicians to be able to connect and to share information. A new registry, entitled ReACH, has been developed in cooperation between the Faculty of Medicine of the Masaryk University (FM MU) and the Institute of Biostatistics and Analyses of the Masaryk University (IBA MU).

The Czech Republic ranks among developed countries in cancer prevention

After many years of bad news, it seems that the Czech Republic is beginning to reap the benefits of the challenging fight against cancer. A programme of nationwide personalised invitations to cancer screening programmes has been launched, incidence trends of most cancer types – including the most common ones – have stabilised, and long-term survival rates of cancer patients have increased. Despite these encouraging facts, the Czech cancer care still faces challenges to be addressed, which might influence the lives of tens of thousands of current and future cancer patients.

TaToo, which stands for “Tagging Tool based on a Semantic Discovery Framework”, is an FP7 Project sharing the vision of a Single European Information Space for Environment (SISE).
