Research groups at IBA MU

The following research groups of the Institute of Biostatistics and Analyses are dedicated to various types of projects. Leaders of the research groups decide on the initiation, continuation and outputs of individual projects. A number of research fellows, graduates and often even undergraduates are involved in each of the following research groups.

Analysis of Clinical Data [Details detail]

Leader of the research group Leader of the research group: Jiří Jarkovský, Ph.D.

The group of Analysis of Clinical Data at the Institute of Biostatistics and Analyses plays an important role in many clinical research projects.

Cancer Epidemiology [Details detail]

Leader of the research group Leader of the research group: Jan Mužík, Ph.D.

The group of Cancer Epidemiology at the Institute of Biostatistics and Analyses evaluates long-term epidemiological data of all cancer types in the Czech Republic.

Health Technology Assessment [Details detail]

Leader of the research group Leader of the research group: Jiří Jarkovský, Ph.D.

The group of Health Technology Assessment at the Institute of Biostatistics and Analyses contributes to the introduction of processes focused on a comprehensive assessment of quality and cost-effectiveness of health care, the so-called Health Technology Assessment.

Bioinformatics in Translational Research (BTR) [Details detail]

Leader of the research group Leader of the research group: Eva Budinská, Ph.D.

The group of Bioinformatics in Translational Research at the Institute of Biostatistics and Analysis is dedicated to the analysis of high-throughput genomic and proteomic data (microarrays, NGS, mass spectrometry, etc.), mainly in the translational research.

Integrative Bioinformatics [Details detail]

Leader of the research group Leader of the research group: Vlad Popovici, Ph.D.

The group of Integrative Bioinformatics aims primarily at developing methods for multi-modality and multi-resolution data analysis in life sciences. The vision is to exploit (i) redundancies in data for reinforcing the discoveries and (ii) complementarity for bringing new insights.

Predictions of Cancer Burden [Details detail]

Leader of the research group Leader of the research group: Tomáš Pavlík, Ph.D.

The group of Predictions of Cancer Burden at the Institute of Biostatistics and Analyses predicts the population burden of cancer in the Czech Republic.

Neuroimaging Group [Details detail]

Leader of the research group Leader of the research group: Daniel Schwarz, Ph.D.

The Neuroimaging Group at the Institute of Biostatistics and Analyses is a voluntary group of young scientists – pregraduate and postgraduate students of mathematical biology, biophysics, neuroscience, and biomedical engineering – solving together problems and challenges from the area of brain research.

Evaluation of Cancer Screening Programmes [Details detail]

Leader of the research group Leader of the research group: Ondřej Májek, Ph.D.

The group of Evaluation of Cancer Screening Programmes at the Institute of Biostatistics and Analyses processes and evaluates data from nationwide cancer screening programmes.

Analysis of Environmental Data [Details detail]

Leader of the research group Leader of the research group: Jiří Kalina, M.Sc.

A joint research team of the Analysis of Environmental Data of the Institute of Biostatistics and Analyses (IBA MU) and the Research Centre for Toxic Compounds in the Environment (RECETOX) at the Masaryk University focuses on the collection, processing and evaluation of data describing the environmental quality, particularly the pollution of various environmental matrices by persistent organic pollutants (POPs).

Research of Emerging Infectious Diseases (EID) [Details detail]

Leader of the research group Leader of the research group: Natália Martínková, Ph.D.

The group of Research of Emerging Infectious Diseases at the Institute of Biostatistics and Analyses investigates pathogen and host interactions from the perspective of their evolution.

Educational data mining, analysis and visualization [Details detail]

Leader of the research group Leader of the research group: Martin Komenda, Ph.D.

This working group at the Institute of Biostatistics and Analyses plays an important role in many research projects focused on the application of analytical, data mining and visualisation methods on educational data.
