List of all projects Data basis for mapping and assessing follow-up care and palliative care in the Czech Republic

Coordinator Coordinator: Švancara Jan

Duration Duration: 2016–2016

The aim of the National Data Basis for Palliative Care is to map and to describe the end of life and the way of dying in the Czech Republic, based on available data sources in the National Health Information System (NHIS).

Part of strategy aimed at the creation of the National Data Basis for Palliative Care, the project “Data basis for mapping and assessing follow-up care and palliative care in the Czech Republic” picked up the threads of the formerly performed process of linking data from the Death Certificate Information System and the National Register of Hospitalised Patients (NRHOSP). The results of this project involved analytical processing of data and the development of a web portal providing interactive visualisations of these data. The long-term objective of the project is to support a professional debate on end-of-life issues and to lift the taboo on the issue of dying among the lay public.

Analytical processing of data was performed by the analytical team at IBA MU under the expert supervision of Assoc. Prof. Ladislav Dušek, PhD. The project was guaranteed by Ladislav Kabelka, MD, PhD (President of the Czech Society of Palliative Medicine), Ondřej Sláma, MD, PhD (Research Secretary of the Czech Society of Palliative Medicine) and Prof. Jiří Vorlíček, MD, PhD (President of the Czech Society for Oncology in the period 2003–2015).

  • Funding: The project was supported by the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic within the programme “National Health Programme – Health Support Projects”. The project is registered with the identifier 56/16/RPZP.
